Umpiring / Marshalling Bumps

The bumps races could not happen without the numerous people that volunteer to umpire or marshal. Most umpires cycle alongside a group of three crews and are responsible for safety as the race progresses, and awarding any bumps that occur. In addition to this, there are a number of static umpires stationed along the course. Marshals assist with a variety of tasks, from helping to pull crews in at Chesterton, to checking bike passes.

We ask that all volunteers have rowed or coxed in at least two sets of bumps races in the past. Those who are less experienced will act as 'Junior Umpires' alongside a more experienced Senior Umpire. All will be invited to attend the free Umpires' Dinner after the Bumps by means of a thank you. If we do not get enough volunteers, marshals will be required from those constituent clubs that have not volunteered umpires and marshals proportional to their entries.

Umpires / Marshals Briefing

All umpires and marshals will be expected to attend a briefing on the Sunday before the Bumps begin. Here, full instructions and other relevant information will be given. The time and location will be circulated in due course. All should attend, even if they have umpired or marshalled before.
